How to edit vector icons

Editing vector icons can seem daunting, but with the right tools and techniques, it’s a straightforward and rewarding process. The first step is to choose the right vector editing software.

Popular options like Figma, Adobe Illustrator, and Sketch are excellent choices, as they allow you to modify paths, colors, and sizes without compromising the quality of your icons.

Once you’ve selected your tool, the next step is importing your icons. For example, if you’re using galaxy icons, you can easily drag and drop the SVG files directly into your preferred software.

After importing, you can start customizing the icons to fit your project. Adjusting colors and strokes is a common first step—simply change the fill and stroke colors to match your design.

You can also tweak the stroke width to make the icons bolder or thinner. If further adjustments are needed, ungroup the components of the icon to edit individual elements. This allows you to reshape, rotate, or remove parts of the icon for a completely unique result.

Finally, once your edits are complete, save and export the file in your desired format. For digital projects, SVG or PNG works best, while PDF is ideal for print. By mastering these steps, you can make any vector icon your own.
